Beyond Necessity: Global Bath and Shower Market Moves Upscale for Growth

The steady global progress of the bath and shower category masks more dynamic growth in developing regions. Latin America, in particular Brazil, will continue to be the category’s growth story. Changing hygiene habits are placing the emphasis on showering, with a corresponding contraction in bath-related products. Across the board, innovation will be focused on product functionality and natural based ingredients to stimulate future growth in this largely mature market.

Bath and shower products are in the main regarded as necessities, with growth remaining steady. In 2010, a slight slackening of pace was in part due to the absence of bird flu induced sales with growth returning to pre-epidemic levels.

Brazil will deliver over a quarter of global growth in the bath and shower market between 2010 and 2015 (similarly to 2005-2010.) This is as much as China and India together, with all three countries central to future growth.

      Global Bath & Shower Market

The desire for natural products is increasing, with consumers looking for products that not only offer natural and safe ingredients, but also deliver in terms of functionality.
Intimate hygiene is the fastest growing product category within bath and shower but is patchy in its development, relying on women seeing it as central to their hygiene routine.

      Retailing in Bosnia-Herzegovina

According to trade sources, GDP growth in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2011 was the strongest it had been in three years. The economy gradually began to exit from the global economic recession in 2011; however the majority of consumers were not truly aware of the signs of recovery. Nevertheless, many companies were aware as they gained easier access to funding and new opportunities for growth became apparent, for example discounters. The economic recession prompted most consumers to change their shopping patterns, boosting the popularity of private label products and leading to increased interest in price-focused advertising and promotions. While these effects of the recession are expected to continue to influence the purchasing habits of consumers in the short term, in 2011 the economic recession clearly started to ease off.

The Retailing in Bosnia-Herzegovina market research report includes:
      •    Analysis of key supply-side and demand trends
      •    Detailed segmentation of international and local products
      •    Historic number of stores, selling space and values, company and brand market shares
      •    Five year forecasts of market trends and market growth

UK Retail Forecasts & Sector Summaries to 2015

With average growth of just 1.9% to 2015, only the strong will survive. Non-food sectors are particularly hard hit as consumers focus on essentials and cut back on big ticket and discretionary spend. Non-food will lose 2.7% points in retail spending.

There is a major change in space as online takes yet more share of spend - particularly in sectors where digital delivery replaces physical product. Though online growth is slowing it will account for nearly 14.0% of all spending by 2015.

Pent up demand and an uplift in the housing market will help home related sectors recover from 2013 onwards, but coming from a much reduced base the recovery will be slow.
